Sorare MLB Market Watch – 01.18.23
There is never a dull moment when it comes to Sorare - even in the heart of the MLB offseason!
5 Quick Hits
The news this week ranges from continued improvements and momentum within the broader Sorare product, as well as some Fantasy Baseball rabbit holes on players that could stand to benefit from the rule changes of 2023.
1. NBA Week in Paris - with Sorare in Tow
While not quite news, and not quite MLB, the amount Sorare is getting involved in real-world sports conversations and events only continues to grow.
This, to me, signals strength, partnerships, and major involvement as the rest of the world begins to wake up to the concept of actually owning pieces of the fantasy industry.
2. Card Designs Always Improving

I know, I know, I write about Baseball, but I wanted to take a quick moment to appreciate all the effort going into card design on Sorare.
It seems that with each passing season and each passing sport launch, the cards get better. I can’t wait to see what that means for the upcoming Baseball season!
3. Gettin’ Statted Up

First off, both BorowskidaChef and Sorare Baseball Beginner are churning out great stuff on Twitter, so if you aren’t following either of them yet, you’re missing out.
Second, Sorare Baseball Beginner shared a snippet from a very intriguing article out of Rotoballer regarding who benefits most from the banning of the shift. This is one major reason I am so high on Corey Seager as we head into ‘23. I also located a good at-a-glance article on all the major rule changes and how the experts are dealing with them.
In addition to the above, I went down a little bit of a Rotoballer stat-nerd rabbit hole with their batted-ball analysis article, which I recommend you check out.
There are a lot of interesting, and sometimes unexpected, players to watch when considering advanced data like this.
4. Carlos Correa - the Man with Marzipan Fibulas?
As I went down the rabbit hole, I found other things.
Like this great write-up on why and how Carlos Correa ended up back on the Twins.
Yes, if you missed it he signed with the Giants, but something came up on his physical. Then he signed with the Mets, and the same thing happened. Now, he’s right back where he started.
As the article points out, the Twins appear to believe that Correa’s fibulas are not, in fact, “made of marzipan.”
That one gave me a chuckle.
5. NBA Action Shots
We’ve all been asking for them, and the time is coming when we see action shots hit the NBA market as promised.
I include this here because this can only be taken as a positive signal for what is to come on the MLB side of the house, similar to the card art progression from news item #2.
Just think, home run swings, steals, and web gems - we could see all of these on future seasons of cards, making them not only a playable asset but a more visually appealing one.
Buyin’ & Sellin’
Ok, I already mentioned Corey Seager. He’s a big name that could get even bigger in ‘23 - but what about some more under-the-radar action out there on the market?
Sellin’
Jose Abreu
Ltd average: .0049 | Rare average: .0622
As always, this is not a knock on the player. Abreu makes good contact, hits for a strong average, and just moved to a better team in a better park, for Pete’s sake.
Everything above is what I am thinking of as a reason to sell. There is optimism surrounding his move. There is optimism around his home-run rate coming back up, and there is even reason to believe that optimism is warranted.
With this optimism has come a good-sized price boost I am personally looking to take a profit here and reinvest elsewhere - letting someone else overpay for new team hype.
Buyin’
Corbin Carroll
Ltd average: .0184 | Rare average: .0453
Ok, this is kinda cheating. Carrol is a top prospect and consistently ranks inside the top 50 for dynasty lists. Yet, it seems like the Sorare market is a little late to the party.
He’s moderately more expensive than an average contributor for your squad, while offering serious upside for years to come.
There is no real need to overthink this. Carroll is what they call a +EV Bet.
