Sorare Ranks Update #10 - June 1st, 2023
The 10th installment of value, delivered right to your digital door.
This last weekend was my bachelor party.
I know what you are thinking, I’ve seen the movies too.
But it wasn’t like that.
Mostly.
I tried to take the best part (in my opinion) of a bachelor party - having a blast with friends - and trim out all the stuff that gives the event a bad rap. Namely, memory loss, strippers, and thousands of dollars lost on the casino floor.
The stuff of movies, and fun a time or two, those things no longer feel like my style.
Instead, we spent a lovely three days in the mountains fishing, eating, and drinking without any slot machines or body glitter in sight.
I like to think we squeezed all the valuable stuff out of the weekend and let everything else fall by the wayside, while still leaving an epic experience with plenty of stories.
The same is true of your rosters. By using these ranks, and paying attention to the value shifts on your squad, you get all the joy and valuable experiences playing this great game, with far less monetary and/or psychological drain to compete.
With that, let’s dive in and catch ourselves some value!
Rankings
Hop into spreadsheet land for the full top 300 using the button below.
Players with negative numbers in the “+/-” column are “Values”, while players with positive numbers in that column are considered “Overvalues.” ↓
*Please note* - based on how I pull the pricing data, some players have blanks in their +/-. This will improve over time as more and more cards continue to hit the market for each player.
Keep on reading for my favorite 10 of each value type below!
10 Value Candidates
Here are your top-end values for the week!
Manny Machado - SD - 3B
SoRank: 16 | Implied Rank: 45 | -29 slot differential
It isn’t often you get a top 20 player for top-50 kinds of prices. But a recent injury combined with a slow start has combined to create a real value perfect storm here.
Corbin Burnes - MIL - SP
SoRank: 21 | Implied Rank: 75 | -54 slot differential
His stuff has been on the rise, and his track record in recent years makes Burnes a continued great value.
Aaron Nola - PHI - SP
SoRank: 31 | Implied Rank: 96 | -65 slot differential
Another value “Ace” alongside Burnes. Both these guys have fallen well below some unproven rookie SPs. Exceptional buy-low target.
Tim Anderson - CWS - SS
SoRank: 59 | Implied Rank: 176 | -117 slot differential
Oh man. Sure he has been injured, but Anderson represents yet another White Sox player who is being categorically ignored.
Seiya Suzuki - CHC - OF
SoRank: 97 | Implied Rank: 173 | -76 slot differential
While his differential gap has closed a tiny bit, we haven’t seen the breakout just yet. It be comin’.
Tyler O’Neill - STL - OF
SoRank: 98 | Implied Rank: 308 | -210 slot differential
I think I’ve hammered this one home enough at this point.
Freddy Peralta - MIL - SP
SoRank: 105 | Implied Rank: 220 | -115 slot differential
Another Brewer! Freddy has made this list before and continues to offer high strikeout upside. He’s a top-end streaming SP you can get super cheap.
Ke’Bryan Hayes - PIT - 3B
SoRank: 111 | Implied Rank: 224 | -113 slot differential
He’s baaaaaaccckkk.
Jesse Winker - MIL - OF/DH
SoRank: 226 | Implied Rank: 465 | -239 slot differential
That recurring neck issue has Winker back with an injury designation, and his price has just plummeted as a result.
Brendan Rodgers - COL - 2B
SoRank: 257 | Implied Rank: 780 | -523 slot differential
He is not healthy right now, but the market has now priced him as if he never will be. Those willing to wait a little have a massive opportunity for a solid middle-infielder here.
10 Overvalued Candidates
This week I only included players I would be actively considering selling or swapping for someone on the Value list where possible.
Jose Altuve - HOU - 2B
SoRank: 71 | Implied Rank: 33 | 38 slot differential
Back from injury and back in the overpriced section. He’s still good, of course, but I always love rotating through these high-value aging vets.
Clayton Kershaw - LAD - SP
SoRank: 132 | Implied Rank: 76 | 56 slot differential
One slot behind Corbin Burnes? And ahead of Aaron Nola. I’ll take a few extra years of production from the other two for a similar price.
Cody Bellinger - CHC - OF
SoRank: 148 | Implied Rank: 72 | 76 slot differential
We’ve been here before, perhaps most of the season so far.
Matt Chapman - TOR - 3B
SoRank: 150 | Implied Rank: 92 | 58 slot differential
Chapman has cooled a bit, and his price has come back down to earth a bit in favor of the newest flavor of the month, but he remains an appealing overvalue to rotate out of unless you are building a Jays stack.
Anthony Santander - BAL - OF/DH
SoRank: 157 | Implied Rank: 88 | 69 slot differential
Gimme Gunnar for Santander and some throw in ETH all day, every day.
Brandon Nimmo - NYM- OF
SoRank: 183 | Implied Rank: 84 | 99 slot differential
Same story, different week.
Hunter Brown - HOU - SP
SoRank: 207 | Implied Rank: 47 | 160 slot differential
Yes, he’s young, but with a price 20+ slots ahead of Burnes and Nola feels rather hasty.
Josh Naylor - CLE - 1B/DH
SoRank: 228 | Implied Rank: 154 | 74 slot differential
Part of me thinks that all this guy does is rake, and part of me recognizes that the difference between 150 and 220 in terms of price isn’t huge, but he still isn’t someone I am actively buying.
Sonny Gray - MIN - SP
SoRank: 242 | Implied Rank: 95 | 147 slot differential
Weekly reminder that regression is real.
Justin Steele - CHC - SP
SoRank: 296 | Implied Rank: 147 | 149 slot differential
Weekly second reminder that regression is real.
That’s a wrap on the rankings, 10 Values, and 10 Overvalues for the week!
